Oh, and one more thing. I believe Bush 43 was the worst president ever to hold that office in the history of the United States. I am unashamed of that opinion.
TruthIf your actions harm no one, then they are ethical. The reverse is not necessarily true.

In case you've seen that email painting Obama as a racist...
I suggest you remember that emails that get broadcast everywhere should always be fact checked. In this case, try this page at Snopes.Com. [...] The above-quoted e-mail forward reproduces passages taken from Barack Obama's two books — Dreams from My Father (1995) and The Audacity of Hope — with the presumed intent of presenting Obama as a self-declared racist. However, these cherry-picked statements are all presented devoid of context, and some of them are reworded from the original (or apparently non-existent). Sufficient to say: It's another fine example of the "politics as usual" that needs to go away.

Does anyone actually still think like Patrick Buchanan?
On Obama and Wright ( Excerpt. Click headline for full story. ) The unmitigated racism in such commentary makes me ill. You are forewarned. Don't read this drivel if you have a weak stomach. I fear this is what we face for the rest of my generation, at least. Someone please tell me that the next generation sees this verbal diarrhea for what it is.

Tell McCain to reject Hagee's endorsement
This past Sunday, John McCain again embraced the political support of right-wing evangelist John Hagee, who said "Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans."
I just signed a petition asking Senator McCain to stop seeking political support from hatemongers like Hagee.
Senator McCain is actually in New Orleans today, and MoveOn members from that region will try to give him this petition.

Musings On MLK Day
Current Music: "I Have A Dream" - Dr. Martin Luther King
Last night, I watched Jay Leno, as I am wont to do on Mondays. (I like the Headlines bit.) One of his interviewees last night was Tavis Smiley, who spoke of Dr. King, and the impact Dr. King had on his own life. During the exchange, Jay asked Tavis what he thought Dr. King would make of the fact that a black man and a woman were running for President, and being taken seriously in that effort.

Did you know that Gov. Mike Huckabee, the rising star in the Republican presidential race, thought AIDS patients should be "isolated", even after scientists knew it couldn't be spread through casual contact? Or that he considers homosexuality "unnatural and sinful"?
After a public outcry erupted over the AIDS comment, Huckabee agreed to meet with the mother of Ryan White, whose son became a household name as a young AIDS patient. But it's been over a week, and he still won't keep his word and meet with her.

Open letter to most "Christians"
Why do we Pagans get Christ better than you do? Is it because we have to actually think about our religious beliefs, and you just follow your leaders like the goats you have become?
Don't you ever read the words of your Savior? If so, how can you justify Dominionism, tax cuts for the rich, or the total disgust you display for the weak and downtrodden, the poor, the minorities?
In recent times, the so-called leaders of this nation have proven time and again that they are "goats" not "sheep" (Matthew 25:31ff). The recent tragedy on the Gulf Coast has shown them for what they truly are. They are profiteering, they are rich men, and they will not pass through the eye of that proverbial needle.
Christ calls for you to clothe the naked, to feed the hungry, to invite the strangers into your home, and to do this for the least of us, as you would for him. He would not approve of your complaining about the cost of relief to hurricane victims. He would not approve of your comments about "black, beached whales", wondering why they didn't just float out of NOLA.
Your bigotry doesn't fit in with his "love your neighbor as yourself", his most basic philosophy. Do you doubt the importance of this to him?
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And the second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend the whole law and the prophets. (Matthew 22:37ff)
Do yourselves a favor. Don't listen to me. Don't listen to Bill McKibben (The Christian Paradox, Harper's Magazine). Don't listen to anyone. If you truly want to follow Christ, to be a Christian, then go read his words. And then make them the basis of your life.
